Seedless grapes continue to gain market share. “It is a new consumer trend that is becoming more and more pronounced in France, driving Banagrumes to further develop its range in this direction. After launching the exclusive Mr Phil brand last year, which embodies this transformation of the grape market, the wholesaler has recently added four new seedless references: Autumn Crisp, Scarlotta, Sweet Célébration and Allison, under its own Orlana brand, launched in 2020 and focused on sustainable fruit.

From Puglia
The reputation of Italian grapes is well established, and the varieties marketed by Banagrumes come straight from Puglia, a region with “ancestral know-how,” explains Alain Alarcón, president of Banagrumes. The company offers seedless and seeded varieties: Italia, Red globe, Autumn crisp and Scarlotta. During the import period, “seedless varieties are now dominant, and during the Italy season, seeded varieties such as Italia are still holding up well.”
Availability problems
The market has been rather “stable” in terms of demand, but product availability has been problematic. “According to our producers, the Italian grape season could end much earlier than usual,” and this could be the case of other products as well. “Banagrumes also markets a lot of citrus fruit, and the current Spanish season could be the second shortest in the last 11 years.”
