Salix Fruits, an importer and exporter of fresh fruits, participated in the latest edition of Fruit Attraction 2023, one of the most prominent events on the fresh fruit sector's calendar, providing an essential platform for the company and its commitment to its clients, suppliers and colleagues.
The fair, held in Madrid from October 3 to 5, has experienced significant growth over the past decade. "Our participation in this event is part of our global strategy," says Juan Gonzalez Pita, co-founder and COO of Salix Fruits. “The fair represents an opportunity to solidify relationships with clients and suppliers, laying the groundwork for future agreements and collaborations.”
The company emphasizes its commitment to continuous growth and consolidation in the European market in 2024. This year, there was robust demand for Southern Hemisphere pears, indicating a growing market and favorable prospects. Likewise, the grape sector experienced strong demand from Europe, allowing for the shipment of substantial volumes. While the lemon season in Argentina faced limitations due to Europe's phytosanitary regulations, it provided an opportunity for South Africa, which maintained price stability.

The highlight was in the orange segment, particularly the Valencia variety, which saw an unprecedented surge in prices due to restrictions on access to the European market. Additionally, the avocado market witnessed fluctuations due to a substantial influx of fruit from Peru, but price recovery is expected as supplies diminish.
As the year comes to a close, monitoring the situation of Peruvian grapes is essential, as Italy and other European grape-producing countries appear to have shorter harvests, potentially leading to sustained demand for Peruvian and South African fruit towards the end of the year.
In all, there is a notable, widespread demand for most products, driven by shorter harvests in both producing countries and Europe as a whole, which has maintained prices at favorable levels.
