As the Egyptian mango season draws to a close in December, prices continue to rise as demand remains steady, according to Walaa Elhabbal, General Manager of Overview growing company.
Walaa said " This year we've had good prices for our mangoes. Prices have risen by 40% compared with last season and will continue to rise until December. Even before the end of the season, we've already reached our commercial targets."
The grower attributes this commercial success to strong demand and improved quality. He says, "There is strong demand from the UK, France, the Netherlands, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan. At Overview Trading Company, we exported 50% more volume than last season. Our mangoes have been well received on the market since we have carried out many safe agricultural operations in which we targeted a crop with high specifications and quality, free of pests and defects, in good sizes."
The grower says he relies on late varieties to continue sourcing good quality mangoes for the rest of the season. "We carried out safe agricultural operations to delay the harvest of the crop, and we relied on late varieties such as Ket, Kent, Haydi, Austin, Baaz and chili," Walaa concludes.
