This week, Ukrainian greenhouse complexes have been given the opportunity to significantly raise the wholesale prices for cucumbers. The main reason for this sharp increase is the seasonal reduction in the supply of cucumbers in Ukrainian greenhouses. Additionally, the absence of competition from imports and very high demand from local wholesale companies and retail networks supports these prices.
According to daily monitoring project data, the cucumber selling season in Ukrainian greenhouse complexes is nearing completion. Farms are currently clearing out their greenhouses, offering cucumbers mostly in small wholesale quantities. It's worth noting that the quality of cucumbers in recent batches has significantly decreased, but this does not prevent sellers from increasing wholesale prices in this segment. Just since the beginning of this week, the price for this product has increased on average by 38%, and today, greenhouse cucumbers are available for sale at $1.46-1.79/kg.
It's important to mention that as of today, the cost of greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine is already, on average, 18% higher than in the same period last year. According to experts, this situation in the Ukrainian cucumber market may lead importers to start shipments of this product from Turkey as early as next week. In such a case, the price of locally grown cucumbers may halt its growth under the pressure of cheaper imported produce.
