In October 2023, Bulgaria is witnessing a decline in vegetable prices, according to the weekly bulletin of the Commission monitoring prices for most vegetables. The Market Price Index (MPI), reflecting wholesale food prices in the country, decreased by 0.87% this week to 2208 points.
At the beginning of the year, the MPI level was 2316 points, reaching a spring peak of 2480 points in the first third of March. The baseline MPI level is 1000 points, established in 2005.
This week, greenhouse cucumbers dropped by 9.8% to 0.9 euros per kilogram.
Tomato prices fell by 7% to 1.63 euros per kilogram, potatoes by 5.4% to 0.62 euros per kilogram, and carrots by 13.8% to 0.51 euros per kilogram.
The price of onions (imported) remains at 0.70 euros per kilogram.
Green bell peppers are sold 9.1% cheaper at 0.77 euros per kilogram.
The price of red peppers increased by 2.6% to 1.02 euros per kilogram.
Cabbage became 11.7% cheaper at 0.5 euros per kilogram.
Imported apples decreased by 2% and are sold at 1 euro per kilogram.
Lemons also became cheaper by 11.7% at 1.24 euros per kilogram.
Banana prices increased by 1% to 1.48 euros per kilogram.
Orange prices rose by 4.7%, and they are being purchased at 1.48 euros per kilogram.
Grapes became 3% cheaper at 1.16 euros per kilogram.
