Despite autumn having long crossed its equator, Belarusian market stalls are still piled with fresh berries. While cranberries and grapes remain the main seasonal berries in late October, a journalist raid on Komarovsky market in the capital revealed a supply of fresh strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. For seasonal berries, a kilogram of cranberries at the market can now be bought for an average of 3.4 – 4.3 euros, and grapes range from 1 to 7 Euros per kilogram, depending on the variety and country of origin. However, prices for fresh berries, whose high season in Belarus has formally ended, were labelled "truly barbaric" by journalists.
Specifically, sellers at the market are asking for 34.4 – 43 Euro per kilogram of blueberries. Raspberry prices are more accessible but still impactful, ranging from 7.2 – 15.8 Euro per kilogram. However, October strawberries, while not as vibrant and large as during the peak season, can be found at a quite democratic price of 3.7 Euro per kilogram. Nevertheless, there are offers at 7.3 – 14.3 Euro per kilogram.
Judging by the fruit stalls, the persimmon season has already started in Belarus, with various sizes and colours available. Accordingly, the price range is quite broad, from 0.86 to 8.6 Euro per kilogram.
Prices for some other fruits at the Komarovsky market: apples (from 0.43 Euro for Belarusian ones to 5.7 Euro for imported ones), pears (from 0.83 to 3.4 Euro), plums (from 1 to 10 Euro), mandarins (from 2.3 to 4.3 Euro), oranges (from 1.86 to 8.6 Euro), and pomegranates (from 1.4 to 10 Euro).
It is worth reminding that fruits and vegetables are among the products for which the Ministry of Economy of Belarus predicted a "seasonal" price increase from October to December.
