Price dynamics of vegetables and fruits in Ukraine: changing trends in autumn-winter 2023

In the fall of 2023, Ukrainians are experiencing fluctuations in prices for vegetables. The conclusion of the harvesting season has led to a shortage of certain vegetables, resulting in price increases. Popular are onions, garlic, and beets. The final batches of salad vegetables are yet available, but with the arrival of winter, greenhouse produce will become more prominent.

Supermarkets note increased demand for borscht ingredients, peppers, and aubergines. With winter approaching, imports will become more relevant.

Domestic producers and supermarket chains are prepared for increased demand, predicting that the assortment will remain stable.

An increase in prices may rise by an additional 15% for cabbage, beets, onions, and carrots expected in November, especially for onions, due to high demand and limited supply.

Prices for fruits in Ukraine are under strain, showing different dynamics depending on the category. Increased demand is for citrus fruits, persimmons, pears, grapes, and plums. Apples have become the most affordable, decreasing by a third.

Lemons and mandarins have decreased in price by almost half and cost approximately 1.25 Euro per kilogram. Grapes have increased slightly by 1.4%, being offered at 2 Euro per kilogram.

Oranges have become more expensive by 5.5%, and bananas have increased even more by 15.5%, now available at an average of 1.2 Euro per kilogram.

Predicting until the New Year, the institute expects a 10% increase in prices for apples and bananas, as well as a 10-15% decrease in citrus prices due to increased supply.
