According to Joaquín Gómez, the executive president of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Table Grapes of Murcia (Apoexpa), Murcia's campaign has been normal. The region produced 260,000 tons, the supply was stable -except for some alteration due to the high temperatures in September-, and prices were reasonable, so the sector will generate an estimated income of 400 to 450 million euro.
The head of Apoexpa estimated exports would stand between 180,000 and 200,000 tons. 90% of the table grapes will be destined for the European Union and the United Kingdom, while the remaining 10% will be marketed in South Africa, emerging destinations in Asia, and on the east coast of the United States, which is growing because its "only eight hours by boat away".
Murcia accounts for 85% of the national harvest of seedless table grapes. 80% of the grapes that will reach the Spanish tables on New Year's Eve will be seedless varieties, Gomez said.
