The red-skinned bananas grown in the Canary Islands have become quite popular on social networks. Despite not being as well known as other banana varieties, this red-skin variety has been with us longer than we imagined.
Víctor Galán, a researcher at the Canarian Institute of Agricultural Research (ICIA), introduced it in 1982 from Martinique, a Caribbean island. This variety is thicker and tends to be smaller than the yellow banana.
Many people have ventured to try this fruit. "It's sweeter and its taste stays on the palate longer," stated a man on social media as he gave one to his daughter to try. "It's better than a normal banana," stated the amazed girl.
Not only does this variety have great flavor, but it also has great health properties. It has the same content of potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, and fiber as traditional bananas, but -unlike the traditional bananas- it is a source of vitamin A and vitamin C.
