The most popular fruit in Russia, bananas, has consistently become more expensive over the past year. It was calculated precisely how much the price of bananas has increased during this period.
Taking the five most popular supermarket chains in Petrozavodsk - "Magnit," "Perekrestok," "Lenta," "Sigma," and "Vkusvill" - the average today's price per kilogram of bananas is 1.32 euros.
According to "Kareliastat" data, in November 2022, the average price tag for bananas in Karelia was 0.90 euros. This means that over the year, the cost of the fruit has increased by 49%. Earlier this year, in January, the average price for bananas was 1 euro.
In Russia, bananas are not grown locally; all fruits are imported from South America, often from Ecuador. As they are imported goods, their price is heavily influenced by currency exchange rates and customs duties. Furthermore, logistical challenges in recent years have contributed to the overall rise in fruit prices.
