Potato market report week 45-46:

'Potato marketing was uneventful'

The marketing of ware potatoes was uneventful overall. The choice of varieties did not change significantly and demand was easily met. According to the BLE, there were no fundamental movements in prices.

Rhineland-Palatinate:
The harvest has been completed for local producers since the end of October. With demand weak, the surplus areas with large supplies are putting pressure on the regional market. Stocks that have been sweated out are fetching premiums on top of the price basis shown. Offers in food retail are hardly putting any pressure on producer prices in direct sales, with quiet but steady business also reported here.

Lower Saxony:
The wet and cold weather continued to prevent the potato harvest from being finalised, reports BVNON.

NRW:
The ware potato market is balanced. Demand is described as normal for the season and the available supply as sufficient to cover demand. The industrial market remains firm. The REKA price was raised again by €2 to €3/100 kg.

Hesse:
There were no price adjustments in the state of Hesse compared to the previous week.

Schleswig-Holstein:
The supply situation is described as limited, as many batches are in the sweating phase. In addition, small quantities of imports from France can be found on the local market. Demand is described as normal. Stock mark-ups of up to €2-3 are being paid, so that the price level is rising at the peak. Most packers are sourcing from their immediate neighbourhood. Sales are also being made beyond the federal state borders to the south of Germany. There are reports of restrained export business. According to market participants, export volumes could increase at the turn of the year.

There are restrictions in terms of quality this year. The main problems are brown rot, wireworm infestation, hollow heart, but also rhizoctonia and volunteer potatoes. This will also lead to higher rejections in the coming weeks.

Thuringia:
In the state of Thuringia, the majority of the stocks have now been cleared and stored, according to the company Karland (FreshPlaza.de reported). "We are currently at around 400 dT/ha, which is quite good compared to previous years. In the main harvest, we have slightly more large-grain produce than in previous years."
