Regional Agricultural Cooperatives have accumulated over 180,000 tons of vegetable reserves for the inter-season period of 2024

Strategic vegetable stockpiles ensure market stability in 2024

Since the beginning of 2023, the functioning of the Regional Agricultural Cooperatives has undergone restructuring, introducing new approaches to forward financing for agricultural producers. These measures involve providing timely funding for farmers, with an advance of 70% of the total amount of the forward contract for the supply of autumn and early vegetables (potatoes, onions, carrots, cabbage) at fixed prices during the inter-seasonal period and rising prices.

Furthermore, storage conditions for produce at Agricultural Storage and Processing Enterprises have been defined until the start of product realisation, along with the development of a delivery schedule for vegetables specifying sales points and trade outlets.

In general, the provision of preferential financing to agricultural entities reduces production costs, ultimately impacting the final product's price. Notably, to regulate the domestic market during the inter-season period of 2024, the Regional Agricultural Cooperatives have formed reserves of the autumn harvest of 2023, totalling 181.8 thousand tons: 102.6 thousand tons of potatoes, 28.3 thousand tons of onions, 22.3 thousand tons of cabbage, and 28.6 thousand tons of carrots. This strategic stockpile ensures market stability and supply continuity during the inter-seasonal period.
