January 30th, 2024 - Balandran research center

First French Allium Day organized by CTIFL

Producers, technical advisors and market operators will be among the nearly 120 participants who are expected to attend the French Allium Day (garlic, shallot, onion and leek) organized by CTIFL, to be held on January 30th, 2024 at the Balandran research center.

This event will be a first for the allium sector, which will be able to “take stock of current events and developments, both in production and downstream, while highlighting national research work carried out by CTIFL and its partners,” according to Juliette Pellat and Laure Michau, who are in charge of organizing the event.

A morning devoted to the market
The morning will be devoted to the downstream side of the business, with conferences and roundtables focusing on the market, sales outlets, sovereignty, packaging and storage. And for each product its own issues. “For the garlic, for example, one of the key challenges is to develop the presence of French production on the market by trying to increase shelf life.”

Afternoon focused on production
Workshops, tours and conferences will punctuate the second part of the day devoted to upstream issues such as weed control, breeding and the latest varietal innovations, with presentations by breeding companies. Plant health management (pests, bio-aggressors and pathogens) will be the focus of particular attention, with very different specificities depending on the product: thrips, rust and mildew for leek crops, fusariosis and plant treatment issues for shallots, and rust and white rot for garlic.

A Village of Exhibitors will enable participants to meet the equipment manufacturers for each sector.
