Turkish products take over Ukrainian market amid Polish border blockade

Ukraine is witnessing a surge in imports of fruits and vegetables from Turkey due to the Polish border blockade.

Tatyana Popovich, Head of Marketing at the wholesale agricultural market "Shuvar," highlighted that Turkish vegetables and fruits now command nearly 40% of the Ukrainian market, with citrus fruits, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis, and aubergines claiming almost half. Citrus fruits alone hold a significant 60% market share.

Compared to the same period in 2022, the overall share of Turkish produce in Ukraine has grown by 15-18%. Popovich emphasised their additional advantage regarding affordability, taste, and quality.

Acknowledging that European fruits and vegetables, including Italian and Spanish, still reach Ukraine, she pointed out delays and increased logistic costs due to the blockade, making them pricier options for Ukrainian consumers.
