In the framework of the last European Council, which took place on Thursday and Friday, the EU has agreed to open negotiations for the accession of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. In 2022, EU fresh fruit and vegetable exports to Ukraine in 2022 at 361,322 tons, and imports at 9,631 tons. EU imports from Moldova totaled 66,008 tons, while Community exports to this country stood at 47,559 tons.
The value of EU fresh fruit and vegetable exports to Ukraine stood at 246.8 million euro while imports stood at 20.3 million euro, according to data from the European Statistical Office, Eurostat, processed by FEPEX.
In 2022, EU exports to Ukraine were led by onion and garlic with 83,030 tons worth 32 million euro, and citrus fruits with 56,967 tons worth 46.6 million euro. They were followed by shipments of carrots and turnips with 46,885 tons worth 14.4 million euro, and cabbages with 30,397 tons worth 13.8 million euro.
The main products imported by the EU from Ukraine in 2022 were apples and pears with 3,080 tons worth 2.2 million euro.
Meanwhile, in 2022, the 27 Member States of the Community exported 47,559 tons of fruit and vegetables worth 39.1 million euro to the Republic of Moldova and imported 66,008 tons worth 41.5 million euro.
The main products exported by the EU to the Republic of Moldova in 2022 were potatoes, with 10,019 tons and 2.6 million euro; citrus fruits, with 6,679 tons and 5.6 million euro; and cabbages, with 3,822 tons and 2.2 million euro.
The products that the EU imported the most from Moldova were grapes (fresh and dried, including raisins), with 26,858 tons and 19 million euro, and the products included in tariff chapter 0809, which corresponds to stone fruit, specifically apricots, peaches, cherries, and plums, with 25,908 tons and 15.3 million euro.
The accession process with these countries has just been announced and there are no planned dates for its conclusion.
