BLE report week 50:

'Apple offerings were wide-ranging'

Local apple offerings predominated in the market. Elstar, Jonagold, Boskoop and Braeburn formed the basis of the range. Wellant and Tenroy followed suit. Red Delicious, Royal Gala and Granny Smith were primarily sourced from Italy. Mainly Pink Lady and Jazz came from France. Dutch goods, in the form of Wellant and Elstar, complemented the market, as did Belgian Jonagold and Boskoop. There were also some Polish offerings available, mostly Golden Delicious. According to BLE, the offer was wide-ranging. Availability increased and it was sufficient to meet demand.

Red-cheeked fruits were often bought for decorative purposes. Sales options had also improved in other ways, including those for Golden Delicious. In Frankfurt, for example, these traded almost effortlessly. Overall, the majority of prices remained at their previous levels. However, slower sales expected in the next few weeks also caused traders to lower their prices slightly.

Pears
Demand was generally quite slow; it could be satisfied without any effort. The scarce availability of Italian Abate Fetel and Santa Maria continued and Turkish Santa Maria and Devici were also only available to a limited extent.

Grapes
Peruvian imports dominated events. There were numerous varieties, mostly seedless, which sometimes saw a nice demand. Overall, demand was rather limited, due to the wintery weather.

Oranges
Spanish Navelina dominated the blonde orange sector. Overall, prices mostly remained constant because supply and demand were sufficiently balanced.

Small citrus fruits
Overall, demand definitely increased; the closer to Christmas, the more buyers there are, usually. However, demand could still be met without major difficulties.

Lemons
Spanish Primofiori predominated, but their prices dropped here ans there as more Turkish Enterdonato were available.

Bananas
The ripening companies had adequately coordinated their output with the sales options. Therefore, traders generally did not have to modify their prices.

Cauliflower
Italian goods dominated events. Availability had expanded. Spanish vegetables were somewhat more accessible as well. Other source countries did not provide as many goods.

Lettuce
Demand was generally met without any difficulties. Prices did vary, but without revealing a clear line.

Cucumbers
Spanish cucumbers obviously dominated the market. Prices often shifted upwards.

Tomatoes
A wide range of products was available. Cheap Turkish and Moroccan batches clashed with high-priced Belgian and Dutch goods.

Sweet peppers
Spanish offerings dominated the scene, with Turkish imports following in importance. There were just a few Moroccan goods left.
