Potato market report week 50-51:

'Availability of French and Dutch potatoes increased slightly'

Domestic ware potatoes continued to dominate and were able to meet demand without difficulty. In addition, a small number of French and Dutch supplies were still available, and their availability increased slightly

According to the BLE, demand was slightly higher and customers were a little more willing to buy than recently. However, the accelerated business did not have a fundamental impact on prices. There was not much happening in the early table potato sector either: although the quality of the offerings was convincing, their high prices have so far only generated limited interest.

NRW:
The Christmas business is expected to further boost sales on the food market. The clearing of warehouses is progressing rapidly. There are few changes on the industrial market. The relevant prices in Western Europe remain stable at the current levels.

Rhineland-Palatinate:
Orders for the holidays should have been largely placed by now. Demand was good and food retail promotions have once again stimulated the buying mood. The supply of goods is assured, even if the quality is not always satisfactory. Self-marketers are also reporting good sales. The price outlook remains stable to firm at the current high level.

Schleswig-Holstein:
In the last few days before the holidays, the potato wholesale trade is much quieter. The ongoing special offer campaigns are boosting sales, but can be met with the quantities provided. The agreed volumes will be delivered by the end of the year. Demand is now being planned for the beginning of the year. Producers see there is scope for further price increases. This applies above all to quality goods. The supply is being reduced by a high level of sorting. Some critical batches have been stored. It is repeatedly pointed out that seed potatoes are in short supply.

Bavaria:
The results of the pre-harvest quality assessment suggest average to below-average yields for table and quality potatoes, depending on the region. Yields are significantly reduced by late planting dates, drought and hot days. The overall deficiencies of 9 % are above average. Around 0.7 million tons of table and processing potatoes can be expected for the 2023 harvest. The majority of potatoes (80 %) have a size of 40-70 mm and are in line with the average size distribution of the last ten years.

Lower Saxony:
Christmas sales of ware potatoes in the state of Lower Saxony continued to make good progress, BVNON reports.

Hesse:
Wholesale prices in the state of Hesse remained at last week's levels.
