Kazakhstan has increased its imports of mandarins and pineapples, but concurrently reduced the import of grapes

Fruit market insights: trends and twists in Kazakhstan's imports

From January to October this year, fruit, and berry imports decreased by 8.3%, totalling 457,000 tons, costing Kazakhstan $274.2 million.

Grape imports decreased by 31%, reaching 534,000 tons from Uzbekistan, China, and Tajikistan.

Imports of lemons and limes also declined by 30% to 4,800 tons, sourced from Turkey, Tajikistan, and Argentina. Additionally, Kazakhstan procured 26% fewer grapefruits and pomelos (5,800 tons) from China and South Africa.

Watermelon and melon shipments decreased by 26.7% to 45,000 tons from Uzbekistan and Iran; banana imports dropped by 12.2% to 62,200 tons from Ecuador and Russia. Apricots, cherries, peaches, and plums saw a 4.6% decline at 48,900 tons, with Uzbekistan, China, and Tajikistan being the main suppliers.

Meanwhile, mandarins and oranges increased by 44.4% and 22.3%, respectively, sourced from Egypt, Iran, Russia, China, Pakistan, and Turkey. Kazakhstan also augmented its purchases of apples and pears by 9.6% to 106,100 tons from Poland, Uzbekistan, and Belgium.

Dates imports grew by 13.3% (27,300 tons) from Iran, Israel, and Tunisia. Pineapple imports also surged, reaching 1,000 tons, a 2.9-fold increase, from China and Costa Rica.
