Aartsen is keen to keep growing. This Dutch company's current premises have reached its limits. After the last expansion in 2008, there was no more room to grow. Aartsen, thus, began searching for a larger plot. "And we found it," says operational director Jasper van der Sandt. He is pleased to announce that Aartsen is expanding to a plot of no less than 21,500 m². Construction began in early December 2023.
Besides a 9,040 m² warehouse with cold storage and a temperature-controlled Cash & Carry, an office with three floors of 400 m² each will be built. "The new location will not only be twice as large as the current one but also our most energy-efficient site," says Frank van der Velden, senior project manager at Aartsen.
"We're creating a building that's as energy-neutral as possible. We should achieve that with 3,000 solar panels that fully provide for our energy needs and a battery system to store excess power to utilize it at night. We want to keep the energy demand as low as possible."
"So, we're focusing on the latest cooling and heating technologies. We'll use closed groundwater sources to cool the refrigeration system compressors. The heat released by this will heat the offices via underfloor heating and climate ceilings. Optimal power usage and a pleasant working environment for our staff: two birds with one stone," Frank concludes.
The concrete floors, open ceilings, and visible pipes will exude an industrial ambiance. Employees will be well taken care of, with a cozy lunchroom, rooftop terrace, and well-equipped fitness area with showers.
Aartsen wants to start using the new building in November 2024.
