The governing boards of Actel and Fruits de Ponent have decided to start the path for the creation of a shared partnership between the two cooperative groups. In this sense, they validated the preparatory work they started a few months ago.
The initiative aims to establish joint management of the fruit, oil, almond, and energy management business units, as well as all services for its partners.
The cooperatives decided to seek this collaboration after a period of joint reflection, taking into account the external context marked by the high concentration of actors in the agri-food value chain and the significant changes in agricultural production caused by the climate emergency, especially accentuated in recent campaigns.
These factors, and the goal of promoting the sustainable development of their business activity, pose the challenge of offering their partners greater profitability on their farms, through a more efficient transformation and marketing of agricultural products, as well as jointly exploring more ways to face the current high investment needs.
In addition, this strategic alliance aims to provide a comprehensive service to society and seek new business opportunities, especially in areas such as energy, fieldwork support for producing partners, and the recruitment of talent in the future organization. As a result of the cooperative principles shared by both entities, this initiative is rooted in the territory and at the service of the whole of society.
If the alliance is consolidated, the new joint venture would manage more than 100,000 tons of fruit and an annual turnover that would exceed 160 million euro. Both cooperative groups have already established a work program to allow the new entity to start its activity during the first half of 2024.
