Israel is facing the prospect of a serious shortage of certain vegetables due to ongoing military actions hindering the cultivation of borderlands and a lack of labor in agriculture.
The Ministry of Agriculture warns that local farmers' tomato supplies will decrease by 25%, with a 30% reduction in yields in the border regions of the Western Negev. The country has increased tomato imports, bringing in 21 tons during the war.
The situation has also affected "hass" lettuce, with a 20% decrease in supplies due to a shortage of workforce. Onions and cabbage are also experiencing shortages, but improvement is expected in the coming weeks. The vegetable shortage has already led to a significant increase in prices, particularly for strawberries, which have more than doubled in price. Reductions in cultivation areas and a lack of labor are the main causes of this deficit.
