A representative from an agriculture firm exporting Cambodian mangoes to Russia and Central Asia has reported a surge in their popularity, particularly in high-end Russian markets. This is a positive sign for Cambodia's agricultural sector.
A senior executive from Liaoning Zhongshang International Trading Company stated that the Keov Romeat variety of Cambodian mango is particularly popular in Russia. The golden yellow skin, high sweetness, strong aroma, and low pulp fibre of this mango are appealing to consumers in Moscow, St Petersburg, and Novosibirsk. He added that the Russia-Ukraine conflict hasn't affected the demand for Cambodian mangoes.
However, the supply of Keov Romeat is currently limited. In 2022, Cambodia exported 169,658 tons of fresh and dried mangoes, a decrease of over 30 percent compared to the previous year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
The ministry also identified Vietnam, Thailand, mainland China, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Austria as key markets with growing demand for Cambodian mangoes. Dried Cambodian mangoes are especially popular in these countries as well as in the Philippines, Japan, Italy, the UK, the US, and Australia.
