Potato prices in Ukraine continue their rally

This week, wholesale potato prices on the Ukrainian market have once again increased, according to analysts of the EastFruit. According to daily monitoring, potatoes sell today for 18-25 UAH/kg (US $0.48-0.67/kg), which is on average 12% more expensive than at the end of the previous working week.

As a result, potatoes on the domestic market of Ukraine are already on average 4 times more expensive than in the same period of 2023. Moreover, most major market players are confident in a further increase in prices in this segment. Price growth is fueled by information about a possible shortage of quality potatoes in storage before the end of the current season.

According to Ukrainian farmers, supply of local potatoes was limited at harvest time due to relatively low yields in many areas. They also reported problems with the quality of local potatoes. High prices for potatoes stimulate imports – at the moment Polish potatoes are entering Ukrainian market.

From the above graph it can be seen that potato prices in Poland today are at least 20% lower than in Ukraine. However, due to increased activity of Ukrainian potato importers, potato prices began to rise in Poland as well.

As noted by key market players, at the moment, stocks of high-quality potatoes in Ukrainian farms are very limited, while the demand for these products continues to increase.
