VBT Figures for week 4:

The prices of tomatoes, strawberries, and cucumbers are lower than in previous years

Last week, the prices for cucumbers and loose tomatoes continued to drop. However, the average price of tomatoes on the vine showed a slight rebound, according to figures from the VBT.

For both tomatoes and cucumbers, this means that the prices of week 4 remain below the five-year average.

In the past two years, the price of cucumbers peaked in January (and in 2023, also in February) due to a significant lack of crops grown under artificial lights (among other factors). This year, many growers turned on the lights again. Traditional crops are now also coming into production.

The average price of strawberries, another major product, is also down and has fallen below the five-year average. With 3.78 euros per kilo on week 4, the average price for the Elsanta variety still stands well below the overall average price of 6.70 euros per kilo.

Lettuce and lamb's lettuce have escaped these negative trends. The average price of lettuce is in line with the rising price trend of 2023. The average price for lamb's lettuce is much higher, although the peak was already reached in the previous week.
