Despite the situation surrounding El Niño, Zimbabwe's Tanganda Tea Company Limited, a prominent producer, packer, and distributor of tea products, anticipates no significant impact on its avocado and macadamia yields. The company attributes this confidence to its investments in dams and irrigation systems.
As its plantations mature, Tanganda projects an increase in avocado and macadamia production over the next three to five years. The company's agricultural division comprises five estates in the Chipinge district, cultivating tea, coffee, avocados, and macadamia nuts.
For the year ending in September, Tanganda's performance is as follows: Bulk tea exports decreased by 12% from the previous year due to late rains. Macadamia exports saw a significant increase of 150%. However, avocado exports declined by 50% as the company pruned trees for rejuvenation.
