At the annual Fruit Logistica trade fair, Frigotec aims to surprise visitors with the first pineapple ripening process using the new AI Softripe ripening method. At the Frigotec booth, visitors can examine and taste the first Softripe pineapple fruits, a trade fair novelty, alongside the already known Softripe avocados or baby bananas. "With the Softripe ripening of pineapples, we want to impressively demonstrate the uniqueness of this innovation to our trade fair visitors," Managing Director Roland Wirth explains.
"Pineapple, as a non-climacteric fruit, could not be selectively ripened until now. With the Softripe process, however, we can now optimally ripen the fruit biologically, making it significantly sweeter and juicier, but still maintaining good shelf-life behavior. This also works with other fruits, such as dragon fruit or passion fruits, and this is unique and new," Wirth continues.
New development allows switch from air- to sea transport
The new development opens up new possibilities for the transport and marketing of exotic fruits worldwide. "With this innovation, previous air freight could be converted to more climate-friendly sea freight and selectively ripened in consumer countries, while still reaching the quality level of air freight," Wirth continues.
"As in the past, however, we rely on the initiative and willingness of the fruit industry as partners to take the step into practical application.
