After five years, the international wholesale industry gathered once again at the Berlin Wasserwerk. As part of the 8th Fructinale, organized by the wholesale market association GFI and numerous sponsors and partners, a total of three Buddy Bears were awarded at the end of the second day of Fruit Logistica. Besides this award ceremony, guests discussed the future of wholesale markets and international fruit and vegetable wholesaling in a relaxed atmosphere, complete with shows and good food.
The official program was marked by the triple awarding of the Buddy Bears in the categories: Farmers Markets, Wholesale Companies, and Media. Björn Weihe from the Berlin wholesale company Peter Keuthmann was awarded the prize for the best wholesale company. "The wholesale business is not a one-man show," he told the audience, subsequently thanking his employees and partners at home and abroad. Reiner Schecker, a vegetable grower and farmers market trader in Frankfurt am Main, also received a Buddy Bear for his impressive career. Thanks to his tireless efforts, the Green Sauce made from regional herbs has become a popular culinary heritage and a trademark of the region. Ulrike Niggemann, long-time managing director of Fruchthandel Magazine, was also honored with a Buddy Bear.
Despite numerous challenges and difficult conditions, wholesalers at home and abroad are predominantly looking forward with optimism. New concepts regarding digitization and the like are also gaining importance. Orderlion, the B2B shop system for gastronomy wholesalers, was one of the main sponsors of the successful professional event this year, a sign that digitization is increasingly making its way into urban wholesale markets.
