On March 19th, 2024, CTIFL is organizing a National Day dedicated to retail trade, aimed at retail stores and supermarkets. The goal is to take stock of the fruit and vegetable trade in light of new consumer trends, in order to “guide the stores' strategic choices,” through a number of conferences, round tables and workshops.
The event will be organized for retail professionals, but the day is “aimed at all those interested in consumer trends,” from producers to wholesalers, in order to “better adapt their product offer” according to Alain Roger, engineer at CTIFL.
Nearly 150 people are expected to attend this event co-organized by the UNCGFL (French National Union for Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Trade), Saveurs Commerce, the Fédération du Commerce Coopératif et Associé, as well as the Fédération du Commerce et de la Distribution / © CTIFL
Consumer expectations change
Due to climate change, inflation and environmental constraints, the needs and expectations of today’s consumers are no longer the same. “The challenge is to know how stores can respond to these new issues,” explains Alain Roger. Consumers can be torn between their convictions, such as consuming organic and local produce, and economic constraints. This will be the focus of a conference with Philippe Moati, economist and founder of Observatoire Société et Consommation, who will examine the influence of societal trends on consumption.
The afternoon will be devoted to workshops on the attractiveness of ready-to-use products (soups, fresh cuts), the results of CTIFL point-of-sale studies and the presentation of point-of-sale tools, as well as traceability and communication (blockchain), which will enable “stores to orient their strategy by clarifying their offer and assortment to better adapt to their clientele.”
