In 2023, Peruvian pitahaya exports experienced remarkable growth, according to preliminary data from Sunat. The export value amounted to $212,676, i.e. 1,071% more than in the previous year, according to Rafael Zacnich, manager of economic studies at ComexPerú.
In terms of volume, shipments went from 4,301 tons in 2022 to 96,440 tons in 2023. This significant increase is mainly attributed to the shipments made by the Camposol company, which account for more than 87% of the export volume.
Camposol mainly sends its shipments to the Netherlands where it has a subsidiary. The Netherlands was the main destination for Peru's pitahaya with exports that totaled US$151,127 and 74,461 kilograms. It was followed, in value, by Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Canada, with shipments exceeding US$15,000, in the German case, and US$10,000 in the remaining markets.
Through the Terra project, exporter R Coorp is sending its first shipment of 400 tons of American Beauty pitahaya to Europe between January and June. The company expects to export more than 1,000 tons by 2025, given the potential demand in countries like Spain, France, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
