In 2023, Kyrgyzstan experienced a notable downturn in its potato exports, as revealed by recent data from the National Statistical Committee. The figures indicate a substantial decrease of 29.5%, with total export volumes amounting to 42,200 tons for the year.
A closer examination of the data reveals the following changes:
- Shipments of potatoes to Uzbekistan saw a decline of 14.2%, with only 37,200 tons exported.
- Meanwhile, exports to Kazakhstan plummeted by a staggering 64.5%, reaching just 4,600 tons.
The Ministry of Agriculture explained earlier that Kyrgyzstan does not cultivate potato varieties that are in demand abroad. This could be one of the factors contributing to the decrease in exports.
