Chilean cherry exports hit record high in January 2024

Chile's cherry exports have reached an unparalleled peak, with January 2024 witnessing a 27.5% surge to US$1.555 million, marking the highest figure since 2007. This growth is attributed to both an upswing in volume and an elevation in global prices. A staggering 93% of these exports, amounting to US$1.447 million, were directed towards China, reflecting a 30.8% increase from the previous year.

This export surge aligns with the Chinese New Year, where cherries are coveted for their auspicious red hue. Ignacio Fernández of ProChile highlighted the monumental growth from US$36 million two decades ago to US$2.000 million in 2023, underscoring Chile's dominance as the global cherry supplier. He emphasized the relentless pursuit of market diversification as a testament to the Chilean producers' innovation and diligence.
