Kazakh farmers have encountered serious problems in exporting onions, leading to an excess of produce on the domestic market. Warehouses are overflowing, and agricultural producers are forced to either destroy their harvest or use it as animal feed due to the lack of demand abroad.
Deputy and entrepreneur Bolatbek Aliyev emphasizes that the problem lies not only in the actions of the Ministry of Agriculture, which imposed a ban on onion exports but also in inefficient logistics. This has resulted in a decrease in onion exports over the past year.
However, the problem is not limited to just the export ban. Deeper issues revolve around the lack of developed logistics routes and infrastructure for delivering goods abroad. For example, restrictions on transportation through Ukraine and Poland create additional challenges for exporters.
Experts are calling for more active intervention from the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan to address logistics issues and ensure access to foreign markets. This includes improving existing transport routes as well as developing alternative methods for delivering goods.
