Easter always brings excitement to the fresh produce trade. "Easter sales are always strong; it may well be the best holiday in terms of sales," says Henk van Walderveen of the namesake fresh produce wholesaler from Nieuwegein. "Top sellers are the entire soft fruit package (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries), but there's also a strong demand for flavor tomatoes and pineapples."

"For stores and foodservice suppliers, I expect very good sales. If the weather stays dry, the markets will also be very busy. In recent years, the second day of Easter has also been very busy in stores. Consumers are off work and tend to visit the stores," says Henk.

Wilko van der Zwaard of Wilko Fruit notices a surge in demand for luxury products, such as nectarines, peaches, and plums from Chile. "The demand for blueberries and strawberries from Spain is also strong. Especially the Calinda strawberries in 12x400 and 10x500 grams are selling well."
"In the week before Easter, we always see good sales with a higher demand than other weeks. Only the weather could be a bit better this week. Citrus sales are currently a bit lower due to Ramadan. At that time, ethnic minorities tend to prefer melons and luxury fruits, and they are the consumers who eat the most fruit."

"But once Ramadan is over, I expect citrus sales to really take off again. We still have our flagship product with Nadorcott from Morocco - double-layered Nespacks and 10 kilos until the end of May. We're also expecting a good stone fruit campaign from Spain. We'll soon start with the first cherries and the first peaches have already arrived!"
The first peaches have arrived.
