Amidst a global decrease in onion prices, exports have also dwindled. Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Aidarbek Saparov, informed Kazinform correspondents about the current situation. He emphasized the ministry's efforts in coordinating production plans with regional authorities, stating there were no specific directives on onion cultivation until this year.
Saparov mentioned that previous years saw a surge in onion prices, prompting increased cultivation. However, this year, global onion prices have fallen, leading to a decrease in exports.
The minister highlighted that while the country exported 180,000 tons of onions in previous years, this year's exports amounted to 117,000 tons, indicating a significant drop. Despite this, he expressed determination to continue efforts, particularly in fulfilling contracts to export 160,000 tons of onions to Georgia and Azerbaijan.
He mentioned ongoing collaboration with the Ministries of Trade and Transport to facilitate logistics for these exports.
