This season, the Dutch company Yex has added a new exotic fruit to its range: snake fruit, also known as salak. "We received this several times over the past few weeks and have started with small volumes. Those are already increasing as more customers get on board. The product's unusual appearance—its peel looks like snake skin—and its subtle sweetness make it interesting. You can generally eat this fruit as is," explains Dion van Vliet.
Snake fruit and mangosteen from Indonesia
"It's a fantastic opportunity because we can import salak or 'snake fruit' along with mangosteen, one of our fastest-growing products from Indonesia. The salak is a nice addition to our exotic fruit range and is interesting to, for example, the hospitality industry and markets. We can even supply retailers. So far, it has been well received, and our customers keep returning for more. We have several shipments per week of both salak and mangosteen, so the stock remains fresh, and we almost always have these products readily available," Dion concludes.
