Rosselkhoznadzor has permitted the import of fruit and vegetable products from the Gagauz Autonomous Territorial Unit of Moldova into Russia. According to "INFOTAG," a letter from Rosselkhoznadzor to Moldova's National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) was published by the authorities of the autonomy.
The letter states that Rosselkhoznadzor deems it possible, under the guarantees of the National Food Safety Agency, to permit, starting from April 10, 2024, the import of fruit and vegetable products into the territory of the Russian Federation from the administrative territories of Moldova, according to the attached list, with the mandatory indication of the producer's name and address in the phytosanitary certificate. In case quarantine objects for the EAEU countries are detected in Moldovan sub-quarantine products, corresponding phytosanitary measures will be taken regarding specific producers.
The attached list includes 26 settlements of the Gagauzia ATU.
A temporary ban on the import of apples and other fruit and vegetable products into Russia was introduced on August 15, 2022, regarding products from 31 districts of Moldova. Since December 4, 2023, Rosselkhoznadzor re-imposed an embargo on Moldovan agricultural products due to "continued systematic detections of quarantine objects in vegetables and fruits." Import into Russia from the Transnistrian region is permitted.
At that time, ANSA stated that "Rosselkhoznadzor is using levers contradicting sanitary and phytosanitary principles, having a different purpose than protecting consumers and Russia's agricultural sector."
