Located in the country's southernmost point, the Keless district of the Turkestan region, Kazakhstan experiences an early onset of spring. Farmers here swiftly engage in agricultural activities, with vegetable crops ripening as early as April.
The primary source of income for the district's residents is agriculture. Presently, farmers in Keless are harvesting and exporting cabbage. Nurmuhammed Omarov, a seasoned farmer with 15 years of experience, has yielded 20 tons of cabbage per hectare. The cabbage heads are dispatched to retail points in three major cities: Astana, Almaty, and Shymkent.
The Keless district boasts a total of 26,000 hectares of irrigated arable land.
Six rain-gun irrigation units have been procured in line with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's directive on implementing water-saving technologies. Now, farmers irrigate 64 hectares with rain-gun irrigation.
Adoption of advanced technologies enables farmers to achieve 2–3 harvests annually.
Under this initiative, 320 farming households have cultivated crops across 1,655 hectares. Additionally, drip irrigation methods have been introduced across 246.8 hectares to enhance production and save water. This year, water-saving technologies are set to be implemented across an additional 1,037.8 hectares.
