In the first quarter of 2024, Peru's fresh avocado exports recorded a significant increase, reaching 105,034 tons worth US$ 233 million. This represents a 35% growth in terms of volume and a 46% increase in terms of value compared to the same period last year. Also, the average price of Peruvian avocados in the international market was US$ 2.22 per kilo, which is 8% more than last year.
Between January and March, Peruvian avocados reached 29 international markets, with the Netherlands (39% share), Spain (22%), and China (15%) standing out as the main destinations. Exports to the Netherlands totaled 41,172 tons worth US$ 92 million, which represents a 35% growth in terms of volume and a 48% increase in terms of value, with an average price of US$ 2.23 per kilo, 10% more than in the previous year.
For its part, Spain acquired 22,324 tons worth US$ 52 million, which represents a 34% growth in terms of volume and a 43% increase in terms of value. The average price reached US$ 2.34 per kilo and was 7% higher.
Lastly, the Chinese market purchased 14,458 tons worth US$ 34 million, which represents a 30% growth in terms of volume and a 38% increase in terms of value. The average price in this market was US$ 2.36 per kilo (one of the highest), which entails a 6% increase.
