The Chilean stone fruit season is drawing to a close. According to the report from Frutas de Chile, last season saw an exceptional export performance for Chilean peaches and plums, with plums becoming Chile's second largest fresh fruit export to China after cherries.
The European stone fruit season begins at the end of May. 1-MCP company SPM Bio is very optimistic about the growing market for imported stone fruit. Debby, the company's director, presented the company's development of a stone fruit preservative.
Stone fruits such as apricots and plums face challenges during harvesting in high temperatures, leading to rapid respiration, nutrient depletion, and susceptibility to decay. Storage and transportation exacerbate issues like mechanical damage, brown rot disease at low temperatures, and spoilage at high temperatures. "1-MCP stands out as an efficient post-harvest preservation tool," explained Debby, "extending storage times, mitigating transportation-related water loss and hardness reduction. When applied in cold storage, 1-MCP significantly extends the shelf life of plums and peaches." Debby noted that 1-MCP has been widely adopted globally for preserving various fruits and can enhance freshness when combined with techniques like low-temperature storage and controlled atmosphere.
Complementing cold storage preservation, SPM Bio offers Angel Fresh sachets and cards as their flagship products. "Our Angel Fresh sachets and cards come in various sizes, suitable for diverse packaging needs in post-harvest storage and transportation, especially at the retail level," Debby emphasized. "We also provide tailored freshness solutions based on packaging and usage scenarios."
SPM Biosciences, specializing in post-harvest preservation for fruits and vegetables, boasts nearly a decade of experience in the Chinese market. With in-house R&D, analysis, and service capabilities, the company holds sales qualifications in multiple countries. They are actively seeking sales agents in new regions, aiming to collaborate with vegetable wholesalers, exporters, packers, and agents to minimize supply chain losses. "We offer free samples for testing," Debby added, inviting potential partners to explore their range of products.
