In what seems like a shocking twist for consumers, the prices of sweet cherries from Imathia in Greece have reportedly soared to approximately 16.39 euros per kilogram.
According to producer complaints, cherries often leave the fields without invoices, providing intermediaries with a golden opportunity to mark up the prices as they see fit. This situation allows them to impose any markup they desire, to the detriment of producers and consumers.
Producers lament that cherries leave farmsteads at prices ranging from 4 to 5 euros per kilogram, only to reappear on store shelves at a staggering 16 euros per kilogram! In this frantic pursuit of profit, consumers find themselves on the losing end of the deal.
