Potato Market Update 15th May

Ireland potato plantings: Some 50% estimated to be complete

Some good planting progress has been made around the country. It is estimated that approximately 50% of plantings are now complete. There were significant delays in the southeast as wet weather continued to hamper progress. This is the second year in the row that planting are running very late and as a result stocks are now running extremely tight.

Across Europe planting conditions are starting to improve, although there were storms in the southern part of Holland recently with rainfall totals reaching 60mm. Recently planted crop was also flooded. Planting of maincrop for processing across France, Belgium and Holland was put at 20% recently, but there has been good progress since. Plantings in the U.K. have also progressed well.
