The event will take place on June 7 - registration is already open

Cooperativa La Palma and Caja Rural Granada present the First Congress on Agriculture with Tropical Purpose

Cooperativa La Palma and Caja Rural Granada presented the First Congress on Agriculture with Tropical Purpose's program. The Congress, an open event to be held on June 7, will bring together experts in tropical cultivation.

The mayor of Motril, Luisa M.ª García Chamorro; the deputy mayor of Environment and Agriculture of Motril, Antonio Escámez; the business director of Caja Rural Granada, José Aurelio Hernández, and the president of Cooperativa La Palma, Pedro Ruiz, announced the event and stated that registration to it is now open.

"This is a very relevant congress for the coast because of the importance of tropical cultivation on our land," the mayor of Motril stated. She thanked Cooperativa La Palma and Caja Rural Granada for organizing the event and "carrying out this joint work to continue innovating and sharing knowledge that is crucial for the development and sustainability of our crops."

"The event will last one day and will be an opportunity to share knowledge while discussing current issues for tropical crops, such as the use of new techniques and technologies; biological control strategies; or digitization and sensorization systems," stated José Aurelio Hernández, the business director of Caja Rural Granada, one of the entities organizing the event.

"Caja Rural Granada also contributes to the sector through the research carried out at Finca La NACLA, located in Puntalón, which has been researching and testing subtropical crops and new varieties for 20 years," he added.

In his speech, the president of the La Palma Cooperative, Pedro Ruiz, stressed the importance of organizing this type of event on the Costa Tropical. "After 51 years of history, La Palma is a horticultural reference, especially in the cultivation of Cherry tomatoes, and we are proud of the social and economic work we've done," he said. "This congress is another example of our commitment to the territory and farmers," he added. "The transfer of knowledge has always characterized us. Now we've decided to go a step further by organizing this congress. It will be the first of other initiatives to inform farmers of tropical trends," stated Ruiz, who announced the upcoming launch of digital training courses.

The program of the congress, available here, includes presentations such as "Pitahaya, an alternative crop for greenhouses in the south of the peninsula", "Avocado regressive death", "Mango flower pruning", and "Biological pest control strategies in subtropical crops".
