Poland finds itself grappling with yet another influx of vegetables from Russia. This time, cucumbers were detained at the border, containing residues over the European limit, the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed shared on May 20, 2024.
The substance detected in the cucumbers was Dichlorvos, primarily used to combat pests and protect products from insects.
As per the communication, the discussed batch did not cross the border, meaning the cucumbers did not appear on any wholesale markets in Poland.
The import of Russian cucumbers into Poland is not a novel occurrence. In 2023, the country imported 7930 tons of this vegetable. Additionally, onions and carrots can also be found in the market, with the total imports from Russia reaching tens of thousands of tons.
