In a few days' time, another complete Irrifarm system for the remote management and monitoring of irrigation and fertigation will become operational in a 40 hectare pomegranate orchard in Puglia.
Pan Agri, which specializes in irrigation automation, is completing a box featuring 3 tanks, filtering technologies and radio units, plus equipment for the detection and measurement of weather and field data for the management and dosage of nutritional solutions at Masseria Fruttirossi.
Bernardo Grieco, CEO of Pan Agri, explained that "installation is almost complete. We are pleased when clients come back, as it is testament to the efficiency, convenience and modernity of what we have sold them. We have installed over 350 complete systems so far, 60% of which in Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria covering 1,800 hectares in total. Many choose us also because we provide complete assistance thanks to two mobile workshops offering technical, technological and IT assistance."
Davide De Lisi, production manager at Masseria Fruttirossi, added that "we are becoming leaders in Italy and Europe for the cultivation and commercialization of both fresh and processed pomegranates, so we must guarantee uniform quantities and quality, which is not necessarily a given considering the climate change underway. Pan Agri is a competent and reliable partner. The projects they design and sell work. We could test it with the no-frost system for avocados, which is managed entirely remotely since 2019. That is why we wanted to do the same for pomegranates, of which we planted the Ako and Wonderful varieties."
Various tensiometric probes at 6 different depths have been planted in the new pomegranate orchard at 10 cm intervals to constantly monitor soil humidity and provide information of water timings and volumes. "Irrigation is important for pomegranates especially during the fruit growing and ripening phase, to enable the right elasticity of the rind and avoid cracking. "Now the rest will be managed remotely thanks to a special Pan Agri software," concluded Davide De Lisi.
