Alexandre Picault, Kultive

Two new eggplant varieties available this week

This week, two new varieties are making their debut in Kultive's ratatouille vegetable range. The White and Graffiti eggplants bring some color to the traditional purple eggplant, the company's flagship product. "The first shipments arrived on Monday," explains Alexandre Picault, Kultive's sales manager. "We are expecting 25 tons of White eggplants for the season and 50 tons of the Graffiti variety. The idea is to continue our diversification strategy by testing the market with new varieties, as we did for the mini-cucumbers, and to focus our development efforts on our flagship products. We want to remain the market leader with our traditional products, while taking on new challenges."

The market is already receptive to the Graffiti eggplant, but a little more shy about the White variety, whose organoleptic qualities differ from those of traditional purple eggplants. "In terms of taste, White eggplants deserve to be more well-known. They are less bitter, with a thinner skin and a lot of dry matter, which means that they keep better. As for the Graffiti variety, we can already feel that there is a good demand for it."

2,500 tons of purple eggplants expected this year
Regarding the traditional purple eggplant, the 2024 season has been profitable so far. "We started at the beginning of March, and we currently have a new greenhouse coming into production. We are currently right in the middle of the season, with good volumes available and a forecast of 2,500 tons for this year. There is a real craze for this product, with a demand that is on the rise and prices in line with our objectives. Quality is good, which also helps sales. Unlike other products, consumption is not affected by the lack of sunshine, since eggplants can be eaten both grilled and in oven dishes. Today, we have reached the period when eggplants are consumed the most, and all our clients are buying the French origin."

Kultive celebrates 10 years
The 3 varieties will be available until October, certified Global GAP, HEV and Demain la Terre, like the other products of the range. Kultive will celebrate its 10th anniversary on the 7th of June. "This will be an opportunity to retrace the history of Kultive and give visibility to the 10 years to come. We will present our new products and our packaging station, and we will round off this wonderful event with a cocktail reception in Sandillon."
