GreenLand Group -

“In Colombia, we as banana and avocado growers are expanding into Tahiti limes”

The GreenLand Group from Colombia, exporters of more than 14 million boxes of their own bananas, are now expanding into Tahiti lime growing and exports. According to Víctor Manuel Henríquez Restrepo, CEO of Invesmar and main manager of the GreenLand Group: "It is with the firm purpose of continuing to contribute to the social and economic development of the areas where we are present, the GreenLand Group's new businesses of Tahiti lemon crops where we expect to plant 400 hectares in the department of Caldas, with the same sustainable DNA that characterizes all our operations, that will generate more than 500 direct and indirect jobs."

The group also owns the logistics company CFS Logistics (logistics and port operator). GreenLand will strengthen its security processes around the mobilization, control and monitoring of all types of dry and refrigerated cargo with the acquisition of its own land transport fleet, which required an investment of USD $3 million says Henríquez Restrepo.

"We have a vision for 2030 that marks our long-term path, which is why we seek the consolidation of the businesses in operation and those that are in implementation, contributing to the strengthening of the economy of the regions, expanding our positive impact and adopting sustainability as a fundamental pillar of management. In this sense, it is also important to mention our new business, We Agro, focused on crop and animal nutrition solutions, plantation protection and provision of agricultural services, which will come into operation this year," explains Henríquez Restrepo, in relation to the group's new expansion plans.

In addition, as part of a regenerative agriculture premise that seeks to naturally recover soil organic matter and biodiversity, reversing the effects of climate change to improve crop health, the Group and its Control B business will strengthen the biotechnology laboratory. This is where they will develop bio-inputs whose active agent is biocontrol fungi and bacteria of native origin. This will be complemented by a line of diagnosis and analysis of soil and foliar samples, which will allow them to serve banana, avocado, citrus and palm plantations across Colombia.

2023, a year of challenges and opportunities
"In the pursuit of constant learning and in the midst of a challenging landscape, GreenLand embraced innovation as a platform to drive the development of its businesses in 2023. Thus, thanks to operational excellence based on high standards, the Group and its businesses achieved important results last year, including the export of the 14 million boxes of bananas supporting 549 producers in Urabá from an inclusive economy approach, with 1,180 productive hectares of avocados and the mobilization of 34,515 containers to reach 12 countries around the world," states Henríquez Restrepo.

The more than 34,000 containers the group exported during 2023 includes the transportation of refrigerated cargo and perishable products such as bananas, plantains, avocados (from their own and from other companies), as well as other types of fruit from third parties. Their main market is Europe, where they reach 15 countries on the continent.

"We are aware that 2024 is profoundly challenging, with political and economic uncertainties that invite us to continue embracing resilience as the best tool to continue strengthening our operations, but it also represents all the possibilities to continue generating value for the country and our regions from our businesses, in a sustainable way," concludes Henríquez Restrepo.
