Mojtaba Shakori, Fruity Garden:

"After Taiwan and the US, we aim to introduce Armenian garlic to the Western European market"

Garlic from various sources is arriving on the European market all the time, but Armenia as a country of origin is not yet well-known. If garlic producer Fruity Garden has its way, that is about to change. The company, based in the Armenian capital of Yerevan, is currently focused mainly on exporting garlic to Taiwan and the USA, but is also keen to supply the Western European market.

"This year, we started exporting our Violet garlic to Europe," says Mojtaba Shakori, who commutes between Armenia and Belgium during the season. "Our garlic can best be compared to the more tinted French and Spanish garlic. Although our yield is slightly lower this year, we do not expect any shortages. Moreover, our garlic is of excellent quality. Our garlic also has a high allicin content," Mojtaba explains.

Fruity Garden has the garlic available in sizes 50, 55, and 60 mm. The company exports the garlic to Belgium, from where it can also serve other European markets. Initially, Fruity Garden wants to focus on sales to European wholesalers. "We can have the dry garlic in Europe within two weeks. Small packaging options with two, three, or five bulbs are also possible."
