Pakistan inititates cherry shipment to China via refrigerated container

Pakistan has initiated its cherry exports to China, dispatching the first consignment via a refrigerated container, as per the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). This development follows the phytosanitary agreement signed in 2022, enabling Pakistan to export fresh cherries to China. Post-agreement, TDAP and the Department of Plant Protection supported orchard owners in registering with the General Administration of Chinese Customs.

Moreover, the Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company (PHDEC) has been instrumental in enhancing cherry production through educational programs for farmers on advanced agricultural practices.

Efforts are underway to boost production of cherry varieties favored by the Chinese market, with plans to set up processing and packaging facilities in GB. TDAP's Chief Executive, Zubair Motiwala, highlighted the potential benefits for growers and the concerted efforts to tap into China's vast market.
