Hellovidék.hu has reported that the cherry season in Hungary has commenced earlier than usual this year, with the harvesting of early varieties starting in mid-May. The majority of Hungarian cherries are expected to enter the market by early June.
The National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) and the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Alliance (FruitVeB) have provided a market overview indicating a promising harvest for this year, though weather conditions, particularly rainfall during the ripening period, could impact the final yields. Historically, cherry harvests in Hungary have ranged from 10,000 to 15,000 tons. Despite the challenges in forecasting this year's yield at such an early stage, the anticipated loss compared to the previous two to three years is reportedly smaller, with current estimates suggesting a harvest of around 12,000 tons.
