Half of the Ukrainian vegetable storehouses lack onion storage equipment

In Ukraine, a significant portion of vegetable storehouses lacks adequate equipment for storing and drying onions, as noted by Pavlo Bulgakov, an expert consultant in fruit and vegetable storage.

He observes that while some storehouses are equipped with proper storage practices, others function merely as basic warehouses with limited capabilities.

For warehouses lacking specialized ventilation, collecting under-dried produce is not advisable, Bulgakov adds. Therefore, manual harvesting in a dry state, directly into mesh containers, and proper placement within the warehouse becomes essential.

Expert advocates for the adoption of more advanced storage systems, including active ventilation, to enhance preservation efforts. He clarifies that active ventilation involves more than just ventilating the room with a fan placed somewhere at the top; it entails thorough airflow throughout the entire produce storage area.
